Southpoint Apartments—Permanent Supportive Housing
in Columbus

Community Housing Network (CHN) has developed Southpoint Apartments, a permanent supportive rental development for individuals disabled by mental illness, substance addiction or histories of homelessness. The project serves both individuals and families by offering 40 studio units and 40 townhomes. The 40 studio units are located within one building, while the townhomes are distributed throughout the site.

Southpoint Apartments

Community Housing Network has a 22-year track record of developing and managing supportive apartments rented to people with special needs. CHN currently owns and manages over 1,100 apartments located at over 130 different sites.  Apartments are widely scattered throughout Franklin County in 28 zip codes in Columbus and in five suburban communities.

Southpoint provides amenities to enhance the tenant’s recovery: a large meeting room with a kitchen attached; a computer lab; several offices for on-site support service agency employees; and a security office with 24/7/365 staffing. The security staff allows many of the tenants who have come from stressful environments to feel safe, aiding in recovery efforts.CHN also provides 24-hour staffing at Southpoint and partners with two local agencies; Amethyst Inc. and Concord Counseling Services for on-site support services.

Nine separate two-story buildings offer 40 family units, completely furnished. The townhouses include 9 two-bedroom units; 27 three-bedroom units; and 4 four-bedroom units. The townhouses are arranged around an open green space that includes a playground designed for toddlers through elementary school-aged children. A full-sized basketball court is adjacent to the playground, with benches for spectators.

Southpoint Apartments

A 5,000 square foot community building is also available to the families at Southpoint. This building includes a laundry room adjacent to a playroom, both of which have large glass windows so parents can do laundry while watching their kids play. Tenants have keys to the rooms so they can access them after hours. The community building also provides the families with a reading room, computer lab, a large meeting room with a kitchen, and offices for on-site support service agency employees, and smaller meeting rooms. The community building also has space for an on-site nurse available to all tenants.

Southpoint Place is a Rebuilding Lives project supported by the Rebuilding Lives Funder Collaborative and the Community Shelter Board. Funding sources include the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority, Franklin County Alcohol, Drug & Mental Health Board, Ohio Department of Development, Ohio Department of Mental Health, Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, Ohio Housing Finance Agency, Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing, Columbus/Franklin County Affordable Housing Trust, City of Columbus, Franklin County, the Federal Home Loan Bank, the Columbus Foundation, and the Eckerd Foundation.
