Area Residents Enjoy Prom Night at Restored Lincoln Theater

CPO Prom

More than 100 senior residents gathered June 24th at the recently renovated Lincoln Theater in the King-Lincoln District of Columbus to celebrate the 6th annual Prom, hosted by Community Properties of Ohio (CPO) and its parent company, Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing (OCCH).

The Prom has become a tradition for CPO and this year expanded to include not only CPO residents but also residents of properties in the surrounding community. The Prom originated in 2003 as an opportunity for CPO residents to enjoy a night of great dancing and good food with their friends. The event, which sees most guests dress formally and dance the night away, has grown in popularity and numbers over the years. This year’s guests included residents of  Worley Terrace and Jenkins Terrace, both properties of Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority; Cambridge Arms and Michigan Avenue, both CPO properties; and the Central Community House, a settlement house on the southeast side of the city.

The guests danced to the music of Jim Luellen’s Jazz Ensemble and celebrated in the landmark theater known for its jazz history. More than 40 members of the local community (including local Boy Scouts) and CPO and OCCH staff have volunteered to make the evening special by serving dinner and dancing with the guests.  A number of women at the Cambridge Arms community made corsages for each guest. The highlight of the evening included the crowning of a king and queen from each property.

CPO Prom 4

CPO, the property management affiliate of Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing, manages a portfolio of more than 1,300 low-income housing units in 250 buildings scattered in seven urban neighborhoods in Columbus.
