Habitat for Humanity of Ohio

Habitat for Humanity of Ohio is one of 22 State Support Organizations affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International. Habitat for Humanity of Ohio was established in 2004 with the primary goal of providing resources and services to 69 Habitat affiliates throughout Ohio.

The Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing (OCCH) made the dream of a Habitat state organization a reality. Their unwavering support since 2004 helped build a solid foundation for Habitat for Humanity of Ohio. This partnership with OCCH has allowed Habitat to be housed in OCCH’s office space as well as accessing OCCH’s expertise in the areas of accounting, event planning and affordable housing.

OCCH has been an important partner with Habitat for Humanity-Greater Columbus for many years, sponsoring several habitat builds in the local Columbus area. Many staff members have participated in these builds as construction volunteers and assistants.

In Fiscal Year 2008 (July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008), Ohio's Habitat affiliates built, rehabbed and recycled 186 single-family Habitat homes valued at more than $16,000,000. To date, Ohio Habitat affiliates have built more than 8,000 new, affordable housing units in the state. Habitat affiliates typically serve households with incomes of 60% or less of the Area Median Income.

Ohio Habitat affiliates experienced a foreclosure rate of less than 1% in 2008. This foreclosure rate is lower than the state and national average.

The Habitat program, locally and around the globe, addresses these problems head on by promoting home ownership and providing a long-term solution designed to break the cycle of poverty. Through the work of Habitat, more than 1 million people have found new hope in the form of affordable housing. Churches, community groups and others have joined together to successfully tackle a significant social problem--decent housing for all.
